Cattle and Enclosures – The Middle Bronze Age of East Anglia ‘Beyond the Fens’  by Jonathan Tabor

This is a joint meeting with Histon and Impington Archaeology Group

The East Anglian Fens have, for many years, dominated Bronze Age studies in the east of England. However, over the last decade a growing number of important developer-funded excavations have provided new evidence for Middle Bronze Age settlement, economy and land use across the region’s ‘uplands’, going some way to redressing this geographical bias. This talk will detail the CAU’s excavation of a major Middle Bronze Age enclosure at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, before considering its wider context and the impact of this new evidence on our understanding of the Middle Bronze Age of the East Anglia.

Jonathan Tabor has been working in commercial archaeology since 2000 and has some 20 years of experience supervising/directing a range of fieldwork projects. He has worked for the Cambridge Archaeological Unit since 2007. His main interest is British prehistory particularly the Neolithic and Bronze Age of East Anglia. Having spent many years in the field, much of his time is now spent working on the post-excavation and publication phases of projects and he is currently lead author on the publication of the archaeology of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
